The prehistoric Native American culture - the Anasazi, are best
known for their adobe and sandstone dwellings
built along and under cliff walls.
Their Cultural "Golden Age" was between 900AD and 1130AD.
They left the area in the 12th and 13th centuries.
They did not "vanish" as is commonly portrayed in media presentations or popular books, but migrated to areas in the Southwest with more favorable rainfall and dependable streams. They merged into the various pueblo peoples whose descendants still live in Arizona and New Mexico - Keresans, Hopi, or Tanoans.
Our day will include:
Park Ranger tours of dwellings built under the cliffs
Self guided tours of pit houses built on the bluffs
Box lunch in the park
