The prehistoric Native American culture - the Anasazi, are best
known for their adobe and sandstone dwellings
built along and under cliff walls.
Their Cultural "Golden Age" was between 900AD and 1130AD.
They left the area in the 12th and 13th centuries.
Our day will include:
Park Ranger tours of dwellings built under the cliffs
Self guided tours of pit houses built on the bluffs
Box lunch in the park
The museum and gift shops with fine Southwest,
Native American Pottery and Silver Jewelry

A National Historic Landmark.
A Historic Civil Engineering Landmark
designated by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Track gauge is 3 ft / 914 mm.
The track was originally built between 1881 and 1882, by the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad,
to carry silver and gold ore mined in the San Juan Mountains.
Length of track today is 45 miles / 72 kms.
The steam-powered locomotives used today
were built during the 1920s.
Our day will include:
3+ hour Train trip to Silverton
Lunch on your own in Silverton
Train trip or bus trip back to Durango
Tour of the locomotive repair shop.
